Installation Overview

2

Kerbstones can be installed by hand, but more often they are machine-made and delivered to the job site ready to be placed. The process of installing curbstones is typically not difficult, but it does require some care and precision. First, the area where the curbstone will be placed must be excavated and levelled. Next, a bed of sand or gravel is often placed to help support the curbstone. Finally, the curbstone is set in place and secured with mortar or another type of adhesive.

Installing Curbstones Yourself (DIY)

Curbstones are usually installed by a professional contractor, but you can install them yourself if you have the right tools and materials. Here’s how to do it:

  1. First, you need to excavate a trench that is about 6 inches wide and 18 inches deep. The trench should be slightly wider than the curbstone itself.
  2. Next, you will need to level the bottom of the trench so that the curbstone can be level when it is installed.
  3. Once the trench is excavated and level, you can begin to install the curbstone. Start by placing the first stone in the middle of the trench.
  4. Use a level to make sure that the stone is level, and then use a trowel to spread concrete around the stone.
  5. Continue installing the stones in this way, working your way from the middle of the trench towards the sides.
  6. When you reach the sides of the trench, you may need to cut the stones to fit. Use a masonry saw to do this.
  7. Once all of the stones are in place, you will need to fill in the joints between the stones with concrete. Use a trowel to do this.
  8. Finally, allow the concrete to cure for at least 24 hours before walking or driving on it.
