Super Bloks

Concrete Block Dimensions in Pakistan

CMU blocks are nominally 16 in (410 mm) long and 8 in (200 mm) wide. Their actual dimensions are 3⁄8 inch (9.5 mm) less than the nominal dimensions (to allow for 3⁄8-inch mortar joints between blocks in any orientation). It is important to note that the blocks are nominally 16 in (410 mm) long because placements are made from the larger size blocks with a nominal draft less than 16 in (410 mm), and the units are assembled extending beyond the edge of the blocks rather than on top of the blocks slab-on-grade to achieve column heights within the design limits.

CMU units are usually designated by a letter or series of letters that identify their structural building type, e.g., “A” for an aluminium-frame building. The 2012 Edition also now classifies Single-R-Frame (SRF) units as closed-section units, e.g., A602. U-Frames (no longer supported) and Multiple R-Frames (MRF) units are not regulated by NDS, so those types of units may be installed without the necessary R footings to ensure comfortable soil stability for on-grade buildings.
